Brunswick – Bertrand R (Bert) Girard, 92, of Brunswick, Maine passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Mid Coast Hospital. He was born in Topsham, on November 4, 1923, the son of Rudolph and Rosa (Lachance) Girard. He attended St. John’s School as a young boy and then Brunswick High School. Bert joined the United States Army in 1943 and proudly served his country during World War II. On December 11, 1943 he married his true love, Pauline Leclerc, and the couple made their home in Topsham for many years.

Bert was a loyal and true friend. Honesty to a fault sometimes, but you always knew where he stood. He loved his family and they always came first. Spending time with his grandchildren, especially upta camp in Jefferson, Maine, was something he looked forward to doing. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Bert had a big heart and was always willing to help when help was needed. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, he was a charter member of the American Legion, Post 202, a member of the Greek Catholic Association of Lisbon Falls, for many years Bert was a member of the Brunswick Golf Club, he was Finance Secretary for the Local #23 Papermakers for 38 years and retired from the Topsham Fire Department after 28 years of service. He will be sadly missed by all those that loved him.

Bert was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Pauline; a son, Bert, Jr., and daughter, Patricia Weber.

He leaves behind his loving children, a daughter, Rachel Hanson and her husband Albert of Topsham and a son, Pierre Girard of Richmond; 8 grandchildren, Stacy Martin, Toby Martin and Tammy Martin Graves all of New Gloucester, Sharleen Reval, Shawnee Berzonski both of Delaware, Dale Edgecomb of Topsham and Melissa Shaw of Bowdoinham; and many many great grandchildren.

At Bert’s request there will be no services held.
