Bath - John Joseph Conlan, 86, of Bath, ME, died Thursday, December 29th in Horizons Living and Rehab Center in Brunswick.

He is survived by his wife Judith (Gilmore) of Bath; his stepchildren Robert G. Twombly of Bath; Timothy Twombly of Marblehead, MA; W. Douglas Twombly of Westport, CT; Meredith Twombly of Shelburne, MA; and six grandchildren whom he adored.

John was the youngest of eight and is predeceased by his brother Patrick M. Conlan and sisters Mary A. Murphy, Katherine J., Martha J., Margaret L., Aileen B. and Alice M. Conlan.

He was born September 20, 1930 in Worcester, MA the son of John J. and Catherine T. (McGoohan) Conlan. He graduated from Worcester Classical High School and earned a degree in history at Providence College. John served as a medical corpsman in the United States Navy and later worked in industrial sales for over 30 years.  He was a daily communicant at St. Mary’s Parish in Bath until his illness.

John was very active in recovery with Alcoholics Anonymous for 46 years. John had a passion for sports, particularly his Providence Friars.  There wasn’t a dog or a baby that he couldn’t befriend.

John’s family wishes to convey their deepest appreciation to the staffs of Horizons Living and Rehab Center in Brunswick, Hill House Assisted Living in Bath, the numerous home health workers, and the many friends who have been so supportive to both John and Judy over the last few years.

In lieu of flowers the Conlan family asks that donations be made to the American Stroke Association.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Jan 4, 2017 at the David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High St, Bath from 10:00 – 11:45am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Church, Bath at 12:00pm.  Friends and family are also welcome to join in a Time of Remembrance after the service at Mae’s Café, Bath.
