Fifth son of Walter Gear and Laverne Crump Gear left the arms of his wife for the last time, grabbed the tail of a shooting star and journeyed to the next adventure. On November 21st, he died quietly at home on Blaisdell Dr. in Phippsburg, Me. with his wife of 56 years and family at his side.

Ron was born April 19, 1940 in Laredo, Missouri. He attended schools in Chillicothe, Mo. and before high school graduation left to join the Navy. He achieved his GED while in the Navy and was stationed Brunswick Naval Air Station, Maine. While there, he met the girl he told his mother he was going to marry. From Brunswick he was transferred to the U.S.S. Wasp stationed in Boston, MA. He would hitchhike from Boston to Maine and back to see her. On April 29, 1961 he married Victoria Anne Blaisdell of Phippsburg, Me. They resided in Bath, Maine where their two sons were born. He was employed at Grumbacher Brush Co. and Auerbach Shoe.

In 1963, they moved to Chillicothe, Missouri where Ron worked for Midland Brick and Tile and later Counsel Feed. He applied for and was accepted to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Academy in 1964. Graduating in January, 1965 he became a patrol officer. He later transferred to the dispatch unit and when IBM installed new computer systems on the 4th floor of police headquarters he applied for and was accepted as a computer programmer where he spent the remainder of his 25 years on the department, retiring in 1989.

He work tirelessly for his family. When asked what his greatest achievement was, he said raising two good sons while living in the city. While a police officer, he attended Penn Valley Community College. After earning his Associate degree, he transferred to the University of Missouri, Kansas City, working days and attending college at night. With the VA benefit it took 7 years to complete his college degree, the first in his family to attend college. There he earned his Bachelor of Science Administration of Justice Degree.

After retiring, he and his bride moved back to her home state of Maine where he was employed at Maine Yankee Nuclear Power,

Sears in Brunswick, Me. and the Hyde School, Bath, Maine.

He enjoyed taking his boys camping when they were young, anything with 4 wheels, making killer chili, and in later years breakfast dates with his wife at South Gate in Bath. Also watching rerun after rerun of MASH. A quiet man, not prone to voicing his emotions, he loved his children and wife with utter devotion. His grandchildren gave him joy he never voiced.

Ron is survived by his wife of the home, Victoria, his son, William A. Gear and daughter-in-law Shelley, of Kansas City, Missouri, his son Anthony M Gear and daughter-in-law Paula, of Midlothian, Virginia. Grandchildren Natalie Gear Wynn of Richmond, Virginia, Zachary T. Gear also of Richmond, Virginia, Logan M. Gear of Kansas City, Missouri and Haley Edgerton also of Kansas City, Missouri.

Also survived by niece Cinda Jaurequi of California and Vicki Jo Gray of S. Carolina as well as other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his favorite Aunt Lucille Guilliams, his brothers John Alvin, Lee Roy, Billy Jack and Russell Eugene Gear.

He leaves his family with broken hearts and will forever be missed.
