Sidney Armour Dudley died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Hawthorne House, Freeport, ME. He was 99 years old. He leaves behind his wife of almost 65 years, Patricia (Booker) Dudley, also of Hawthorne House. Formerly longtime residents of Bath, ME.

Sidney was born in Norfolk, VA on August 28, 1917 to Sidney Everett Dudley and Annie Ila Armour Dudley.  He Graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering on June 10, 1940 and he Graduated with a Master of Science in Marine Engineering from MIT June 10, 1941. He worked at Cramp Shipbuilding in Philadelphia, PA from July 1941-November 1945 before starting his long career as a Mechanical Engineer at BIW on December 17, 1945, retiring from the Bath Iron Works in August of 1982.

Sidney had many interests and was an avid fly fisherman, tied his own flies and even named one Captain Dudley after his father. He enjoyed model railroading, making some beautiful and very detailed buildings including a replica of the Bath Train Station for his own set. He hiked Mt. Olympus in Washington state with his father and sister Marg in August of 1932.

He was also an avid photographer, golfer, and even took flying lessons and had his student pilot’s license in his early days. Sidney was a Member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and a Member of the Atlantic Salmon Federation as well.

Sidney is survived by three daughters, Cheryl Dudley, Cynthia D. Seaman and her husband Charles, Melanie Chicoria and her husband Robert. He also leaves several grandchildren: Lenore Garbin, Benjamin Garbin, Timothy Garbin, Jotham Garbin, Zachary Garbin and their families. Jason Bancroft and his wife Asal, Matthew Bancroft and his Fiancé Danielle, and Jameson Bancroft and his wife Kathleen. Trent Vellella, his wife Grace their daughter Sidney as well as several other Great Grandchildren.
