Litchfield – Walter L. Longley , 88, of Plains Road passed away on Saturday August 26, 2017 at Lakewood Continuing Care in Waterville. He was born on April 15, 1929, the son of Cyrus & Annie (Chandler) Longley. He grew up in Bath and graduated from Morse High School, Class of 1947. After high school Walter served in the United States Navy until 1950.

On November 27,1948 he married Barbara J. Dunton, They lived in Bath , except for the time he was in the military. They moved to Woolwich in 1973 and then to Litchfield in 2007. He was employed at Hyde Windlass in Bath as a machinist. He left to be a full time driver at the Bath Fire Department. He later retired and returned to the Hyde Windlass and then to Bath Iron Works as a production planner where he retired in 1988. In addition to his full time position he was a Captain of the volunteer crew at Bath Fire Department. He also was a deputy at the Sagadahoc Sheriffs department  and also served as president of the Bath Iron Works Credit Union.

Walter was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bath, and later at the Litchfield Plains Baptist Church. He was very active in the Masons and  the Kora Temple Shrine. He was a past member of Sage Swingers . He and Wife Barbara loved to Dance. Walter loved the outdoors . Hunting was a passion , especially for deer and upland game. He also loved to fish – especially at Moosehead Lake. He also loved to ice fish and fish in salt water.

He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Joan Lombardo Brown, Marilyn Stailing, Diane Longley, Sister in Law Magaret Hanscom, and brother in laws Robert Stailing and John Brown, Wife Barbara, and daughter Gail A Colpus and her husband Don.

Surviving are three daughters Kathy Villemuer of Virginia , Sue E Dentico and her husband Robert of Wiscasset, and Madelyn (Lynn) J Phinney and her husband Doug of Topsham, and son Walter A. Longley and his wife Christine of Litchfield, one brother William C Longley of Woolwich, and many grand , great grand , and great great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donation may be made to either the Shriners Hospital for Children – Boston, 51 Blossom St., Boston Ma. 02114 or Shriners Hospital for Children – Springfield , 615 Carew St. Springfield. Ma. 01104

Funeral services will be on Saturday September 2, 2017 at 11:00 am – at the Litchfield Plains Baptist Church , 56 Plains Road , Litchfield  Me. 04350  A Reception will follow at the church .
