John Raymond Shorey

BATH- John Raymond Shorey, 68, of Bath, Maine; passed away unexpectedly at his North Port Florida residence on Monday, February 26, 2018.   

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Davee Bryant Shorey of 43 years and loving daughter, Amanda Shorey, of Bath, ME.; his brother David Shorey and his wife of Ipswich, MA.; father in law David Bryant of Bath, ME and niece Dawnett Moreau Ingrassi of Fallbrook, CA.  Predeceased by his father Durward T. Shorey and mother Daphine H. Shorey.

A Bath native and Morse High School graduate, class of 1967, John continued his education graduating cum laude in 1971 from Springfield College.  After attending Officer Candidate School, he served as a pilot for the United States Navy.  Upon his return, John was employed as the program director for the YMCA in both Augusta, ME and Rocky Mount, NC..   He began his 40-year tenure at Bath Iron Works starting in the apprenticeship program, became a mechanical engineer, and taught in the apprentice program.   

Always a true gentleman, John had a reputation for being honest, dependable and helpful.  He also loved to tell stories. In his free time, he enjoyed boating as a commodore with the Down East Yacht Club, volunteering at the Maine Maritime Museum, giving tours on the trolley through BIW, woodworking, and supporting the local field hockey and basketball teams.  With Davee at his side, he looked forward to his mid-winter escapes to North Port, Florida where they have built a community of friends and thoroughly enjoyed biking, kayaking, playing bocce, and pickleball.  His supportive and thoughtful presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

All are invited to a Celebration of Life March 10, 2018, at the Maine Maritime Museum, Long Reach Hall, from 12:30-2:30. Join us in celebrating and sharing our best memories and times together.
