Martha Jane (Wood) Adams

West Bath - Martha Jane Adams 83 passed away on August 22, 2019 after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.  She was born in Augusta December 31, 1935 to Charles and Josephine Wood.   She was raised in Bath and sold newspapers at the main gate of BIW for many of her school years graduating Morse High School in 1953.   She met and married the love of her life Robert Adams Sr. in 1956.   They made their home in Bath until building a home on the family camp site at Sabino in 1978.  She was very involved with the Sabino Hall and served as president of the Sabino Improvement Association for many years.

Martha enjoyed a long career as Assistant to the Director of Alumni Relations at Bowdoin College.  There she made many lifelong friends and was a constant at the hockey games.  

During the 70’s she and her family built a camp and were regulars at Sugarloaf where many wonderful memories were made.   On retiring she stayed very busy and enjoyed life to the fullest.  In summers she joined Bob lobstering on the New Meadow River and playing golf with the Ladies at the Bath Country Club.  For a decade the couple wintered in Plant City Florida and enjoyed many cruises to the Caribbean especially enjoying the snorkeling.   They also made many visit to her Brother Charlie’s home in Colorado.  These trips included week’s long road trips exploring the entire Western side of the country.    Up to her last day Martha enjoyed monthly luncheons with her two important groups of friends; her Morse High School Class of 53 and her Bowdoin retirees. 

Martha was predeceased by her husband in 2014.  She is survived by a brother Charles Wood and his wife Helly of Colorado and her sister Sally Hinckley of Alna.   Her daughter Sandra Waters and partner Roger Dalton of West Bath, son Robert Jr. and wife Laura Plunkett of Harpswell.  The great joys of her life her grandchildren Brandon Adams, Zachary Adams, Justin Dolan and wife Katrina, Season Fitzpatrick and husband Sean, Great-grandchildren Wyatt, Nuala, Fiona and Hunter.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Winter St. Center Washington St. Bath. 

 In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the local charity of one’s choice or contribute to a GoFundMe page of a sick or injuries child in her memory.
