Nancy Elizabeth (Norton) Richter, 81, of Bath Maine, passed away on December 16th, 2018. Born to Francis Norton and Jessie (Colby) Norton, Dec. 17th, 1937 in Bath, Nancy was a lifelong Bath resident. She grew up on Pine St., attended Bath schools and graduated from Morse High in 1956. Nancy’s yearbook lists her as participating in “most sports, excelling at many of them.”
After graduation, she worked for New England Telephone for a time, before marrying Roy C. Richter Jr. of Bath in 1960. Nancy was an energetic homemaker and mother until 1987, when fate took Roy from her far too soon. Nancy rose to this challenge, getting her first driver’s license and going back to work for the first time in over 20 years at BIW Credit Union.
In this new career as a Teller, New Account specialist, and ultimately IRA Specialist Nancy did indeed excel, while still shepherding three boys through the loss of their father with calm and inner strength. Her leisure time was spent entertaining her sisters and high school friends, or with knitting needles or cross-stitch in hand, creating a legacy which her children and grandchildren will enjoy for decades to come.
Lately a resident of Hawthorne House in Freeport, Nancy is survived by her sisters Jean Colfer of Brunswick and Susan Franzosa of Plymouth, MA. Also surviving her are three sons: Jeff Richter and wife Kathy Reindl, of Mason City, IA, Steven Richter, and Timothy Richter and wife Brenda Cummings, of Bath, and grandchildren Kassandra Foss of Hermon, ME and Samuel Reindl of Mason City, IA. She will be greatly missed by both family and friends. Graveside services will occur in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Nancy’s memory.
