Brunswick – Robert G. Turner, 86, of Brunswick, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 at Mid Coast Hospital. He was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on December 5th, 1931, the son of Earl and Grace (Blessing) Turner. He grew up in Pittsfield, graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1950.
On September 1st, 1952, Robert married his one and only love, Constance Biette, and the couple resided in Brunswick, Maine to raise their family.
Robert joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country until 1955. Following his naval service, he was employed with The Supervisor of Shipbuilding Bath in Quality Assurance until retiring in 1987.
Robert was a man of many passions. He was an avid golfer who belonged to many local clubs over the years, most recently a member of Mere Creek in Brunswick. Robert also coached Babe Ruth baseball and junior golf. One of his proudest accomplishments was singing and directing several Barber Shop Quartets and choruses in the Brunswick and Portland area. He also published several original musical arrangements.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Connie, and their daughter Carol and her husband Peter Choate. Robert will also be remembered by his three grandchildren, Sarah Greenlaw and husband Steve, Brian Choate and wife Jessica, and Amanda Choate, as well as three great-grandchildren, Brooklyne, Brayden, and Bryson.
In lieu of flowers, Robert has requested that in his memory donations be made to Mid Coast Humane Society of Brunswick, Maine.
A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 11:00 – 1:00am at Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing Street, Brunswick, Maine 04011
