Albert Spickler Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family of Albert Spickler (AKA Butch, Papa, Hotdog Papa, Chief, Spickletoes, Al) announce his passing on June 7, 2024.
Al was born on July 8, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska to Wilma and Nile Spickler. He was raised in the mid-west as the youngest of 4 children.
He joined the Navy at 18 and traveled the world. While his ship was docked at the BIW for repairs he met and married his wife "Trudy" in 1963. Later that year they had a daughter Colleen Degen.
He retired from the Navy in 1976 taking a job at the BIW and later in years Ingalls Shipyard. He fully retired in 2008 to care for his wife until her passing in 2012.
He returned to Maine from Alabama at that time. He spent his time doing what he loved caring for his yard both at his home and camp on Togus Pond as well as time with family and friends.
Due to his declining health he spent his final years living with his daughter Colleen and "son" Corey until his passing.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Trudy as well as his stepdaughter Margery and husband Ken Seavey, Son-in-law Leonard Brue and Grandson Donald Unterseher Jr. and two brothers George and John Spickler.
He leaves behind a large family to include one daughter Colleen Degen and life partner Corey Smith, their shared 6 children and 10 grandchildren. Also to include three stepchildren Kathy Brue, Greg Palmer and Debby Pierce and their respective families along with one sister Phoebe Hensley with a large extended family on the west coast. Al was a loving Father, Grandfather to 14, Great Grandfather to 23 and Great Great Grandfather to 4.
He will be greatly missed. We are fortunate to have had him in our lives. Couldn't have asked for a better Father and role model.
A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Post 202 in Topsham on August 31 from 130p-530p after a private burial of both Al and his wife Trudy.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to your favorite charity in his name.
