Carl O. McCabe, 91, went home on Friday, August 6, 2021. Carl was born in Bath, Maine on June 22, 1930, the son of Chester H. McCabe and Anna F. (Haley) McCabe. Carl grew up in Bath and graduated from Morse High School, the class of 1947. After graduation, he worked in his father’s plumbing business- C. H. McCabe and Sons Plumbing and Heating.
In 1950, Carl enlisted in the US Navy as an Engineman serving four years (1950-1954). Being Honorable Discharged, he became a fire fighter at NAS Brunswick, Maine from 1955-1984. Upon retiring, he continued as a volunteer firefighter with Bath Fire Department.
Carl enjoyed many vacation and fishing trips to the family’s camp on Sugar Island at Moosehead Lake. In later years, he developed a passion for making and repairing clocks with Balzer family of Freeport. For several years, the City of Bath retained Carl to refurbish and maintain the Thomas Street Clock in downtown Bath and the First Baptist Church Steeple Clock.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Chester H. McCabe and Anna F. McCabe; brother Willard H. McCabe; half brother and sister Chester H. McCabe JR and Dorothy E. (McCabe) Stone. He is survived by his son Lawrence C. McCabe and wife Kristi of Fort Worth, Texas; grandsons Patrick L. McCabe and his wife Jennifer of Montgomery Alabama, Richard M. McCabe of Fort Worth, Texas and Carl S. McCabe and his wife Deanna of Justin, Texas, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards all friends, neighbors, Bath Fire Department, Bath Police Department, especially Sabrina Doak, and his great nephew CJ Stone who have all shared their love, kindness and support looking after Carl in his later years.
