Phippsburg - On Thursday, December 17th, 2020, Debra “Debbie” Ann Townsend-Neilson, of Phippsburg, passed away at the age of 54 after her long battle with cancer. She was at home surrounded by her loved ones in her final moments on this earth.
Debbie was born on March 9th, 1966 in Bath, Maine to Robert Townsend and Mary Morris, and raised by Robert and her loving step-mom Norma Townsend in Woolwich, Maine. She graduated from Morse High School, class of 1984. On June 15th, 1985 she married the love of her life, Leslie “Roland” Neilson. They raised three children together. She was a strong woman with a no BS personality that everyone grew to respect and love. She was always known as the “cool” mom and often picked up “strays” and made them feel loved and welcome. She was accepting of everyone, no matter what past they had and always found the good in every soul.
She loved her pets, camping, hunting, fishing, music, woodworking and crafts. She especially loved gardening and took great pride in growing the most beautiful roses. She enjoyed family gatherings where she could visit with all of her children and grandchildren at the same time
Debbie was predeceased by her father, Robert Townsend.
She leaves behind her loving husband Roland of 35 years; her beloved mom Norma Billings and her husband Norman of Woolwich; her mother Mary Sheltra of CT; her brother. Larry Sheltra and sister, Michelle Tracey of CT; her three children; her son, Leslie Neilson of Phippsburg, her son, Robert Neilson and his wife Charlene of Brunswick; her daughter, Norma “Jeannie” Martin and her husband Ryan of Waterville; her six grandchildren; Ricky, Yvette, Robert, Remington, Tegan and Cheyanne; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Unfortunately, at this time there will not be any services held for Debbie. The family plans to throw a celebration of life in her honor as soon as weather permits outdoor gatherings.
