Elmer Fox Obituary

Elmer William Fox 96 of Georgetown and Bath, Maine passed away January 24, 2023 at home peacefully.

Elmer was born in Bridgeton, ME to Earle and Nellie Fox on October 28, 1926.  He moved to Bath when he was in the 8th grade.  While in high school, he worked summers at Bath Iron Works (BIW).  In his senior year of high school in 1945 after receiving his diploma early from Morse High School,  he was drafted into the army on January 17, 1945.  In April of 1945, he served as an honor guard for Franklin D. Roosevelt’s funeral train as it returned from Georgia to Washington, DC.  Elmer was stationed with the Hawaiian Sea Coast Artillery until his discharge in April 1945.   Returning from the Army, he began work at BWI where he worked until his retirement in 1988.

Elmer exhibited perpetual good cheer and had a great many hobbies including fishing year-round, bird hunting, metal detecting and competitive shooting.  He, along with his father and brother Earl, was an avid stamp collector.  He trained with the minor leagues and remained a life-long baseball enthusiast.  He took great joy in gardening both flowers and vegetables.  He loved to talk about all of it and was a master at conversation.

Elmer is survived by his cousin Erleen Blake, of Fryburg, and others.

Elmer will be missed by his many friends and caregivers in Georgetown.  Pam Kakalis, Lynn Murray, Daisy, Denise, Amanda, Kalee, Holly and many others.  Special thanks to Dolly, his nurse and dear friend for many years.  Her friendship and extraordinary care was treasured by Elmer.

A graveside service will be held in the Spring in Brownfield, ME at the family cemetery.
