Gertrude Labbe went home to heaven on January 23, 2026. She passed
away peacefully at the Elm St Assisted Living in Topsham at the age of 99.
Born October 26, 1926, in Brunswick, Maine, to Jean the Baptiste Pelletier
and Adelia Leclerc. Gertrude spent her early years in Brunswick. She
graduated from Brunswick High School in 1945 and married the love of her
life, Claude Labbe, on May 3, 1947.
Gertrude was a devoted stay-at-home mother who also managed the family
business, Labbe’s TV Service in Topsham. She will be remembered for her
independence, joyful spirit, and fun-loving nature, as well as her delicious
pork stuffing that became a family favorite. Gertrude enjoyed playing bingo,
because she always won and played the queen of spades with her card-
playing friends at her niece Ann Baker’s home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Labbe; her brothers,
Alcide Pelletier, Gerard Pelletier, Raoul Pelletier, and Lionel Pelletier; her
sister, partner in crime, Jeanne Bourque; and her grandson, Alex Labbe.
She is survived by her children: Michael Labbe and his partner, Luanne
Crinion; Diane Lavallee husband, Peter Lavallee; David and Darlene
Labbe; and Judy and Peter Labbe. She also leaves behind seven
grandchildren: Kera Welner, Jacklyn Labbe, Joseph Labbe, Heather
Estabrook, Brittany Francine, Jenna Clement, and Lindsey Lavallee along
with five great-grandchildren: Payton and Braydon Welner, Brennan
Clement, and Eli and Ivy Estabrook.
For the prankster she was, Mass of Celebration will be held on February 2,
2026, Ground Hog Day, at St. John’s Church at 10:00 AM.
A private family burial will be in the spring at Maine Veterans Memorial
Cemetery in Augusta.
