Jeremy Young Obituary

Portland - Jeremy W. Young (1974-2024) On August 12, 2024, Jeremy W. Young of Portland, Maine passed away at the age of 50 years.  He was born in Alexander City, Alabama. Jeremy completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Montevallo before graduating with a Masters Degree of Business Administration from Texas Wesleyan University in 2003. He was employed as an Intermodal Solutions Sales Manager at BNSF Railway and as a Pastoral Resident at South Freeport Church.

Jeremy developed a love for cooking at an early age. Throughout his life, he generously shared his talents in the kitchen with all. From beautifully presented full course meals to meticulously designed one-of-a-kind cakes, Jeremy valued both food preparation and presentation.

Jeremy will also be remembered for his passion for trains. He had a life-long career in the railroad industry and always said that I get paid to have fun.  We will remember Jeremy each time we hear a train whistle blow. When we see a train rumbling by, we will know that Jeremy’s spirit is there.

Jeremy’s love of Christmas was above and beyond. We will remember his thoughtful and personal hand-written correspondence, including Christmas cards. At the end of each Christmas season he would already be thinking of the next year.

Jeremy made it known that his favorite singer of all time was Belinda Carlisle. She has always been his celebrity icon. She said it best in an interview once: For whatever reason, we all have someone in movies or music that touches our lives. For Jeremy, she was that person, and her music gave him great joy.

Jeremy was a man of deep faith. He will be remembered as a man that always had a relationship with God: No matter my age, I’ve always been called to be in church and thankful that God always called out to me. His Pastor described Jeremy by writing: God's light shone out brightly through his vibrant spirit and his fierce faith.

We all feel blessed to have had Jeremy for as long as we did but Jeremy wrote that he was most proud of his relationship with his husband, Brandon M. Lisa.

Jeremy is survived by Brandon M. Lisa (husband), Alice L. Flatt (mother), Christy Y. Fogle (sister,) Nichole Gortney (niece) and Kate Fogle (niece); as well as dear friends Denise Hanna, Ruth Rozelle, Carol Fowkes, and his beloved dachshund, Otis. His cherished family, loyal friends, dedicated colleagues, faithful congregants, and treasured neighbors will sadly miss him.

A service celebrating Jeremy’s life will be held at 1:00 on September 21, 2024, at South Freeport Church.

The service will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend in person.  Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted – Matthew 5:4.
