Joseph R. Silver, 76, of Bowdoinham, Me, formerly of Enfield, Ct, went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
He was born on March 24, 1949, to Joseph and Anne (Brown) Silver. He was the oldest of five children. He graduated from Enfield High School in 1967. He entered the U.S. Army where he served until 1970 which included a year in Vietnam.
In his early years he was a motorcycle enthusiast and mechanic at Marsh Motor Cycle of Windsor Locks, Ct. In the early 80's the family moved to Maine. He began a career at Brunswick Naval Air Station and eventually became the pest controller. He had many duties. The most important was runway safety, especially for The Blue Angels and Thunderbirds! Over his 25 years there, he received many awards for jobs well-done and in 2007 received the Civilian of the Year award. He retired when BNAS closed in 2011.
His career, however, was not the most important thing. In 1977, Jesus Christ came into Joe's life. He filled him with hope, joy, love and a new purpose – to share Jesus with all those around him.
Throughout the years he served in various ministry roles including pastoring Truth Church in Nobleboro, Me and serving alongside family at Rock of Ages Bible Church in Wiscasset, Me.
He is survived by his high-school sweetheart Lynne K (Seeley) Silver whom he married in 1969; his daughters Amy Decker and her husband Robert of Bowdoinham, Me, and Robin Charbonneau and her husband Leonard of Wiscasset, Me, 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also, his sisters Kathleen Silver-Ryder of Tyler, Tx and Colleen Esteves and her husband of Ocala, Fla., his sister in law Chris Silver of Enfield, Ct. and 9 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers James Silver of Enfield, CT; Frank Silver and his wife Jackie of Ocala, Fla. and his nephew Stephen.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Joe knew he loved Jesus and his family very much. We know that he is now truly “wonderful and full of wonder!!”
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm at Second Baptist Church of Bowdoinham with military honors and burial to follow at Bay View Cemetery, Bowdoinham.
