Kendall William Wallace Sr., 77, of Freeport, passed away peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, in Scarborough, Maine, on August 7, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born April 15, 1946 in Bath, Maine, the 3rd son of Harold E. and Elsie D. Gilliam Wallace. He grew up in the West Point section of Phippsburg, Maine.
At infancy he was placed in a basket in a skiff with his mother rowing and his father hand pulling lobster traps. By the time he was 6 years old he had his own skiff and lobster traps to haul. He completed school after 8th grade to go lobstering full-time to help his family. Kendall also worked for Washburn & Doughty, had a Fishing dragger named F/V Ruth Francis and fished, went scalloping and shrimping. He worked for BIW and was a lead man in the paintshop and took pride in working drydock in Portland on the U.S.S. Thomas S. Gates. After BIW, Kendall went back to lobstering on the F/V's, the Misses, the Someday, the Carla M and then bought the boat of his dreams, a Novi named the Danny Boy, later renamed the Kathleen M.
Kendall was a member of the Small Point Baptist Church in Small Point and was one of a small group who started a visitation and prayer group at the church called, Dare to Care, which he was involved in for a few years.
Kendall grew up playing guitar and singing with his Aunts, Uncles and many cousins. He was on bowling leagues and enjoyed his CB radio family, where his handle was, " Little Fisherman". He spent his whole life going to Sumner, Maine to a camp called "Tampa Lodge" on Shagg Pond, with his parents and extended family for Thanksgivings, hunting, fishing, and riding 4 wheelers. Later in life his brother Earl built a camp around the corner and similar traditions were carried out. Kendall loved to dance every week at the Silver Spur and met his wife Kathleen there. Kendall and Kathleen got married at the Silver Spur and continued to go dance most Saturdays. Kendall was a great and loving father to his children, leaving them with many great memories. Always a friend, a shoulder to cry on and full of big hugs. He was an amazing grandfather and great grandfather and had the nack for getting babies to sleep when no one else could. He took many younger people in the extended family under his wing to help on his lobster boats, including his children and a few grandchildren, and taught many how to drive a standard. Kendall loved his fishing Community almost as much as his family, and always lent a hand when needed, and often helped at the wharf. He liked to sit at the wharf with other lobstermen and drink coffee and tell stories. Kendall cared and loved deeply.
Kendall and his family wish to express sincere thanks to Maine Med Nuero ICU and the Doctors and nursing staff of the Richard's wing (R6) during his final days, a special thanks to his amazing RN, Daniel, to the caring staff of Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough for the utmost care of Kendall and support of his family.
Kendall was predeceased by his parents Harold and Elsie Wallace, a brother, Arthur (Gussie) Wallace a great grandson Antionio E.W. Bell Jr.(baby Tony) and his 2nd wife if 27 years Carla Elwell Wallace.
Kendall is survived by his wife Kathleen, his children, Joanne Wallace-Rodney, Kendall William Wallace Jr., Marie Whorff Reid and Robert Varney, and a brother Earl Wallace & Lorraine Hiles.
