BRUNSWICK — Leila Doubek, 88 of Brunswick, Maine, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on August 9, 2018. Leila was born on September 9, 1929 in Caribou, Maine.
Leila traveled the world with her family as an Air Force wife, and was proud to be married to Joseph Doubek, also of Brunswick. Joe and Leila celebrated 66 years of love and marriage earlier this summer.
The family settled in Brunswick, Maine where she became an unforgettable elementary school teacher at Williams Cone School. When she was not working, Leila enjoyed being an active member of the Brunswick Golf Club with her husband as well as the lady’s team. Leila enjoyed cooking for her family, friends, and was well known for her pies and stews.
Leila truly loved being a Brunswick resident, frequenting the local farmers market and shopping with her daughters and granddaughters.
The most important thing to Leila was being with her family. Leila was fond of family get togethers, sharing meals, stories and laughter. More recently, Leila took great joy in watching her great grandsons grow up, and will always be remembered fondly as their “Nana.”
Leila was predeceased by her parents Ronald & Gladys Simon of the Allagash, and her daughter Debra Cyr of Topsham. Leila is survived by her husband Joseph, her daughter Lana, her brother Roger Simon of Caribou, granddaughters Kay Kessler & Alison Cyr of Topsham, great grandsons Joseph & Jacob Kessler of Topsham, and several extended family from Northern Maine and in the Brunswick area. Leila will be missed by her family, friends, fellow teachers, students and other people whose lives she touched in her time in the community.
There are no public services planned, as the immediate family will be celebrating Leila in private.
