Marie Baxter Obituary

Brunswick – Marie (Cecile) Baxter, aged 96, passed away on May 4, 2024, at the Hill House in Bath.

Cecile was born in Brunswick 0n June 13, 1927, the daughter of Augustin and Pomela (Bois) Bergeron. She graduated 8th grade from St. Johns, and then let education give way to working.

After graduating school, Cecile worked at the textile mill in Brunswick for a few years. She then moved to Connecticut, and worked at the Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Company for about 15 years.

Cecile married the love of her life, Wilfred (Bill) Baxter, in 1963. They moved to Pemaquid Beach, Maine, in 1966, where they owned and ran The Village Market General Store for 2 years. They then moved to Woolwich, and started a home building company, Baxter and Dube Homebuilders.

Cecile enjoyed her retirement by moving with Bill to Florida in 1978, residing in Holiday and the Daytona area. She loved socializing with her friends at Lake Conley, teaching crafts and leading swimming pool exercises. During that time, she and Bill also enjoyed many travels. More recently, they returned to live in New Hampshire and eventually back to Brunswick to be near family.

She is survived by her beloved husband of almost 61 years, Bill; step-son, Carl Baxter and his wife Cynthia of Bow, New Hampshire, brother Raymond and his wife Patricia of Brunswick, as well as three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Cecile was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Augustin (Gus), Alcide, Henri, Gerard, Robert (Archie), Conrad (Jackie), and Alfred (Pete) Bergeron; and sisters, Clemence (Mortimer), Berthe (Labbe), Grace (Allard), Florence (Cloutier), Pauline (Saucier), and Irene (Hutchison).
