Marlene D. (née Nickerson) Hooper, born to the deceased Ruth A. Nickerson and Alonzo T. Nickerson on June 21st, 1934 passed away on Tuesday morning May 19th, 2026, at the age of 91.
She was known for her all encompassing love—that was stitched, crocheted, and knitted into every afghan, quilt, hat, mitten, and pair of slippers that has been, and will be endlessly cherished by all remaining family members. Across her long life she worked for 37 years at Bath Iron Works, until the age of 81; and in recent years she spent her time knitting, reading, spending time with family, and watching her favorite bird, the hummingbird, of course. Most memorably, Marlene was known for donating time to such activities like making dance recital outfits for her daughters, Dawn, Robin, and her many nieces. Amongst so many other hobbies, she was notorious for her cooking—from baking fresh bread, to making homemade jams and jellies, to comforting Sunday dinners, and a special treat of gouda and pepperoncinis—Marlene cultivated a house full of homemade love that will always be remembered.
Marlene had nine siblings, and was preceded in death by five, including Norman Nickerson, Robert Nickerson, Albert “Teddy” Nickerson, Ruth Ann (Nickerson) Belanger, and Donal Nickerson. Surviving her are Betty Jean Kane, Diana Hodgdon, Mona Nickerson, and Charles Nickerson––with his wife Kathy.
Marlene has five surviving children, Dawn Segars––with her husband Guy Segars—Kenneth Hooper, Robin Hooper, Kitty Hooper, and Alan Hooper. And her son, Norman
Hooper, who preceded her in death. Marlene also has many grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as a great great granddaughter.
