Pearl Bergeron Obituary

BRUNSWICK – Pearl Edmay (Charltray) Bergeron, aged 93, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at her home in Brunswick, Maine, surrounded by her family.

Pearl was born in Waterville, Maine on February 8, 1932, the daughter of Pearley J. Charltray and Marie Edmay (Saucier) Charltray. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Maxime and Clarisse Saucier alongside her aunts and uncles- though more like siblings. She often reminisced of her time growing up with her Grandmother and Grandfather, who she called “Ma and Pa.” and stories of childhood in a large family. She was a devoted daughter, regularly visiting her father and caring for him when he was ill, as well.

She married the love of her life, Gus Bergeron, on July 5, 1952 and together they raised five children, loved eight grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

The family grew and Pearl worked at Grant’s and J Brush Factory. She also worked hard at home. When the family moved into their forever home, Pearl and Gus worked together to improve it, making large changes to accommodate their family.

Pearl stopped working outside the home to start babysitting. Ms. Pearl cared for many children over the years. She treated the children she watched like bonus grandchildren. She is still fondly remembered by those same children, many years later.

Pearl and Gus enjoyed retirement together, traveling to visit family across the country, taking vacations with and without the grandkids. Spending time with family at home. Distant family came to visit them, as well. Holidays were always busy at their house.

But most of all, they just loved each other. They teased each other regularly, good naturedly. She would grumble about him. He would grumble about her. But there was always love. Sometimes a quiet gesture. Sometimes a large one. Always love. And when they danced, both of their faces glowed. Every time.

Pearl was predeceased by her grandparents, Maxime and Clarisse Saucier: Her parents, Marie Edmay Charltray and Pearley J Charltray, Her Aunts: Lil, Hattie, Bessie, Her Uncles: Clarence, Lawrence, Richard (Dick), Edmond (Babe), and her beloved husband, Gus.

She is survived by her children, Paul and his wife Elizabeth, Elaine, Joyce and her husband Gregory, Gary and his wife Sue, Steve and his wife Debbie, her Son-in-Law, Paul, her Goddaughter Tiffany, Eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

 We love you Pearl, Ms. Pearl, Mom, Memere. Forever. And thank you.

Our family would like to recognize the grace and kindness shown during this difficult time by Chan’s Home Health and Hospice. Your staff was helpful and informative, as well as caring for everyone, not just the patient and that means a lot. And you have done this for us twice, now.

In lieu of flowers we would like to offer the following organizations to consider donating to;

Chan’s Home Health and Hospice for their care of Pearl and Gus, or the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. Pearl donated regularly to Children’s Cancer charities and this organization had a special place in her heart.
