Phyllis Hope (Barter) Kelly

Bath- Phyllis Hope Kelly, 94, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth after living a good long life.

She was born on November 20, 1927 in Portland, Maine. The youngest of four daughters to Irald S and Hazel (Munsey) Barter. Her early schooling started in Gorham. Later moving to Brunswick schools and then Bath schools.

Phyllis worked for the First National Grocery Store in Bath for many years. Then moved on to the Jay Brush Company in Brunswick for 20 years.

She met William Kelly and later married him on July 18, 1975. However, after only a few years, Bill took sick and Phyllis dedicated her love and took care of him for the next 12 years until Bill’s passing in 1985.

In her free time, Phyllis enjoyed the sights and sounds that Popham Beach had to offer. She enjoyed roller skating and belonged to a skating club in South Portland. Skiing, Beech Ridge Speedway with friends and of course shopping at Porteous were all favorites of hers as well.

Phyllis was a fun Aunt. With her nieces and nephews fondly remembering her for taking them places, buying them sports equipment when needed and Brownie and Girl Scout uniforms as well. She will be loving remembered and sorely missed by them.

She is predeceased by her three sisters; Virginia Wescott, Eleanor Merrow and Connie Risteen; as well as a nephew.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and distant cousins.

Phyllis will be laid to rest at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta next to her late husband Bill.
