West Bath - Terrence Lee Lewis, 79, of Bath, passed away peacefully, April 2, 2026 at Maine Medical Center Portland, Maine. Surrounded by his longtime girlfriend and close friends.
Born on May 24, 1946 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine at Saint Andrews Hospital. He was The son of Gordon, E Lewis, and Priscilla (Smith) Lewis. Terry was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Stephanie Bower, Pamela J. Lewis, three brothers, Allen G Lewis, James Lewis and Michael S. Lewis and his mentor, Robert Nicholas “Bill” Westlake, his chosen and deeply cherished father figure.
He spent his early years attending school in Wiscasset Maine before moving to Bath where he spent most of his life. Terry’s first job was in a Junkyard where it sparked his passion for automotive. He later worked at Sears in the automotive department as a tire changer. Terry was a proud veteran of the US Army Who served in the Vietnam war stationed in Thailand where he served as military police and did Admin work for the supply chain. Terry proudly worked 49 years at Bath Iron Works in various roles retiring in 2022 he was well known for wearing his Hawaiian shirt collection to work on Fridays.
He is survived by his beloved companion, Maryann Stoklas and her brother Tommy. His best buddy since he was 12, Danny Valliancourt and his wife Muriel. His close friends, neighbors and devoted caregivers Dave and Doris who were like family to him.
He was a member of the American Legion George T. Files Post 20. Terry enjoyed all types of music, listening to cousin Brucie and radio talk shows. He loved stopping by the Post, watching Jeopardy and having Dates with Maryanne at the Galley and the Fairgrounds Café.
Sometimes Tommy would come along too. He spent his mornings hanging out at Smart’s Body Shop holding down the chair, greeting customers and sipping coffee with Danny, Muriel and Kevin. In the afternoons at home, he’d slip through an opening in the fence to enjoy dinner, a fire on the patio or watching sports and car shows with the neighbors.
Terry’s favorite saying was “you’ve got to have humor” and that he sure did. He will be deeply missed by us all. Terry found joy in the small things, browsing Goodwill for additions to his collections and hunting for bargains at Shaw’s and Brackett’s Market. But what mattered most to him was people. He believed his purpose in life was to be kind and giving, and he never passed up an opportunity to make a stranger’s day a little easier.
His Girlfriend and chosen family would like to thank all the doctors and Nurses at Maine Medical Center MFC, for their expert care and compassion to Terry and his loved ones. Honoring Terry’s wishes, no services will be held. In keeping with Terry spirit, memorial contributions in Terry’s name may be made out to: The American Legion post 20, 1 Columbia Dr., Brunswick, ME 04011
