Bath - Thomas Howard Steen was born in Portland, Maine on December 29, 1956. He was a life-long north-end resident of Bath.
On Sunday morning, November 16, he headed out to a place where every day is a sunny summer beach day.
Tom loved boating on the Kennebec River, partying at Popham Beach, swimming at Reid State Park, and playing football for Morse High School. He often spoke of how proud he was to be part of the “best football team Morse ever had” when they won the State Championship in 1972. Other favorite life memories include childhood summers at Sebago Lake, ‘80’s music, and big parties at his house. He also loved every dog he ever met.
Tom is a graduate of Morse High School class of 1975, Maine Central Institute of Technology in Pittsfield, and Southern Maine Vocational Technicial Institute in South Portland.
He was a Master Plumber and Master Oil Burner Technician, He worked many years at Steen Company, Inc. in Bath.
In more recent years, Tom could be seen around town collecting recyclable bottles. He most appreciated seeing old friends and making new ones along the way. He was very grateful to have grown up in the city of Bath, “best place in the world.”
He was predeceased in passing by his parents Dorris & James Steen, his grandmothers Helen Crooker and Esther Steen, and his dogs Browndog, Bismark, Daisy Mae, and Haley.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Greenblatt Shappell and her husband Michael of Brownfield, Maine, two nephews, Joshua Greenblatt and family of Brownfield, Maine, Jason Greenblatt and family of Portland, Oregon, several cousins, many friends, and childhood best friend “little brother” Mark. Tom wishes to especially thank best friend Chris and also Dr. Hjorth for their concern and compassion during these last few years.
