William "Bill" Frederick Edgett Jr.

Bath - William F. Edgett Jr, passed away on June 18, 2026, at The Highlands in Topsham where he had been a resident for almost a year.  Bill was born on November 1, 1935, to William F. Edgett, Sr. and Louise (McPhee) Edgett. 

He was educated in Bath schools and was a proud graduate of Morse High School in 1955 and was fortunate enough to attend the Bath High School Alumni Association Banquet in June of 2025 to celebrate his 70th reunion. After high school he joined the US Navy.  He met his future wife of 50 years, Sharon Giles, in Boothbay where they married on November 23, 1957. 

He had many antique cars and travelled throughout Maine with the antique car clubs that they belonged to.  He loved dogs and always had a dog until he moved to The Highlands.  He worked for Bath Iron Works for 49 years, first in the Electric shop and then in Testing & Evaluation, retiring in 2003.  He was a true shipbuilder for sure, between being a Morse graduate and dedicated years to shipbuilding at BIW.  His retirement gift to himself was a 2004 Ford Mustang, adorned with his nickname, “Wildcat.” Working on small engines, attending auctions and flea markets, catching up with friends at any of the local restaurants,  going out to eat with Vickie & Ken, dinner with Dale & Ann which ended with a game of Rummy (which he didn’t like losing at), playing Backgammon on the computer, monthly breakfast with his BIW friends, watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, reruns of Hogans Heroes and M.A.S.H, attending family gatherings all kept him busy during retirement.  Bill was an avid New England sports fan and would keep up with Morse sports and his grandchildren’s games, especially baseball.  Bill was an avid outdoorsman, sharing his passions with his grandchildren, taking them to his favorite hunting and fishing spots. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church of All Saints Parish in Bath and volunteered in many ways there.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Joan Daubenspeck, his wife, Sharon, and his grandson, Matthew Lajoie.

Bill is survived by his two daughters, Vickie (Ken) Lajoie of Brunswick and Ann (Dale) Carlton of Arrowsic; as well as his grandchildren Marcia  (Dillon) Ladner, Ryan Lajoie, Kendra Lajoie, Christopher (Katie) Carlton), Brian (Beth) Carlton) and 7 great grandchildren, one nephew and one niece.

The family would like to thank all of the Staff at The Governor King facility at The Highlands in Topsham.  Your care and concern meant a lot to us and we appreciated all that you did for Dad especially near the end.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 from 4:00 – 6:00pm at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High Street, Bath.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 11:00am at All Saints Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 144 Lincoln Street, Bath.
