Cecile Anne Gagnon passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 26.  Cecile was born on February 14, 1919 in Brunswick, Maine, the daughter of Ernestine and Charles Pinette.  She was the oldest of six children.  She married Placide Gagnon, Sr. in 1936 and always resided in Brunswick where she raised nine children and was a caregiver to many family members.

Cecile was a wonderful homemaker and dedicated much of her life to helping others. When Cecile was in her 50's, she returned to school and received her high school diploma.  She also took a Certified Nurse Aide course and worked as a CNA for many years in the old Brunswick Hospital, the Regional Hospital and the Steven's Home.  It was also in her 50's that she got her driver's license.  Memere loved to bake cookies and knit for her grandchildren.  Her specialty was knitting slippers.  She enjoyed taking drives and picnicking at the ocean, especially Pemaquid Point.  Cecile didn't have the opportunity to travel much, but took a trip to Washington, DC.  It was the "trip of her life".

Of all her accomplishments, her greatest love was playing the piano.  When there were family gatherings, Cecile would be the life of the party.  On certain occasions, her mother, Ernestine would accompany her on the harmonica!  She would also entertain in nursing homes in the area.  She arranged her music program according to the holidays. Her favorite was always Christmas.

Cecile was preceded in death by her husband, Placide, Sr. in 1991 and her son, Regis, in 2009.

Cecile is survived by sons, Placide, Jr. and wife Colette of Deland, Florida, Roger and wife Joan of Marietta, Georgia, David and wife Joannie of Brunswick, Gregory of Weymouth, Massachusetts, daughters, Eunice Gagnon of Brunswick, Marie Wagner of Brunswick, Prisca Thomson and husband David of Falmouth, Celeste Whitcomb of Athol, Massachusetts, a daughter-in-law, Nancy Gagnon of Albany, New York, a sister, Venise Whitehead of Windsor, Connecticut, and sisters-in-law Rose-Anne Pinette of Brunswick and Sheila Pinette of Lebanon, New Hampshire.  She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Cecile's family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all the wonderful staff at Hawthorne House Nursing Home in Freeport and Hospice of Southern Maine, all of whom took such great care of Cecile.

At Cecile's request, there will be no visiting hours.  There will be a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Cecile's life on Friday, June 3rd at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Church in Brunswick.
