Phippsburg – Samuel E. “Sam” Burgess Jr. passed away on January 25th at his home in Sebasco Estates, Maine. He was 71 years old.

Born in Bath on October 5, 1944, the son of Samuel & Edith (Alexander) Burgess. He grew up in Sebasco Estates and attended Morse High School, he was a member of the Class of 1963, where he was a part of the Track, Cross Country and Basketball teams which he excelled at all.

Sam was a lobsterman since childhood. He loved being on the ocean and worked hard to provide for his family. He will be sadly missed by all those that loved him.

Sam was pre-deceased by his parents, and a sister, Edith A. Burgess.

He leaves behind his wife Kathy; his daughter Laurie McNelly and son, Sam Burgess III; his sisters, Rose Holbrook and Estella Perkins and her husband Everett Perkins; 3 grandchildren, Joey Leask, Savanna Burgess and Bryce McNelly; uncles, nephews, nieces and many true friends.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 30th at the Phippsburg Sportsman's Club from 1 to 3 PM food and refreshments provided.
