Ms. Ames was my home room and Asian studies. She was the my favorite teacher. She was so inspiring. I always ran her in Shaws and she would say "Dear could you get that water off the top shelf for me". You see I'm 5'9" and could always reach the top shelf for her. She was the definition of a teacher. RIP

I am saddened to hear of the loss of Pat Ames. Growing up with Tricia, starting in the 5th grade, I have wonderful memories of the willow tree in her back yard, visiting the lake, canoeing, and sneaking Oreo cookies from her cookie jar. I also fondly remember receiving her never-ending guidance through her loving, gentle, and wise words, always with an encouragement of imagination. Starting at age 11 when I first met Tricia and her family, it was thrilling for me to also call her “Aunt Pat”. I felt I was part of something special, and I was. Pat Ames was definitely a prominent figure to me while growing up, throughout elementary school, Junior High, and as a teacher to me in High School. Yet, she was always a teacher to me, for which I am grateful. Anytime spent in her presence I felt her love for learning and traveling – she conveyed a strength and independence that struck me at a tender age, and inspired me, and truly stayed a part of me as I explored on my own.
Tricia, I am sorry for your loss; you, your family, and Aunt Pat, are in my thoughts and in my heart.
Much love, Molly

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Know that God is aware of the tears you are shedding. (Psalm 56:18) He will soon do what is said at Acts 24:15, which promises us of a resurrection of our loved ones. May that bring you hope. Take comfort in your good memories and allow your family and loving friends to help you through this difficult time.

Pat Ames combined a seriousness about the work with humor, warmth, and a touch for the personal. I can't think of any teacher who had as big an impact on her colleagues, her students, and her community. I know that I will continue to remember her and call on her inspiration when I think about what is special and important about our profession and the school we were lucky enough to share.

My condolences to your family and friends at this sacred time.

Dr. Pat Ames: strong, keen, committed, caring, kind....and she didn't pull any punches. She certainly let me know that I should be more interested in CC (Contemporary Civilization) than in the CB (Cute Boy) sitting next to me. Dr. Ames was one of kind. Her character will live on through those of us whom who lucky enough to experience her extraordinary way of being, and for that - I am grateful.
As for the boy next to me? Well, he was pretty cute. And I was, well, you know, 17. RIP dear Dr. Ames.

It's funny how, upon hearing news like this, a single memory will stand out. For me, it was sitting in Asian Studies class c. 1984 and trying to eat M&Ms with chopsticks.
My condolences to the Ames family - Dr Ames was an amazing teacher and one of my favorites. I still have a small statue that she gave to me from her trip to Pakistan on my shelf. She touched the lives of so many and will truly be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Dr. Ames. I am truly saddened to hear of her passing. I had Ms. Ames as a teacher at Morse High School for Asian Studies and I remember the amazing stories she would tell of her travels. She was always kind to me and was an awesome teacher. I learned allot from her. I also got the opportunity to know her, outside of school one summer. Our family stayed at the cabin next to hers on Damariscotta Lake. I will always remember that. Thank you Ms. Ames, for all you have done. You will be missed.

Dr. Patricia Ames was a wonderful teacher. When I was her student she praised my ability to write succinctly. Later while in college, her praise helped me keep my confidence during one of my first final exams. As I sat writing my answers to the essay questions I watched most of the rest of the class get up to take a second blue book. Panic to set in because I had not even come close to filling in one book! Then I recalled what Miss Ames had said and I forged on confidently. Her lessons are still with me even as my 40th reunion (MHS '78) approaches!

How absolutely BLESSED was I to have had Miss Ames in my life! Civics and Social Studies were both classes I enjoyed greatly, due entirely, to her consistent and loving way with her students.
I was going through a rough patch in my life when I was assigned to her classes, and I seriously could not have been more fortunate! Her standards of excellence were "renowned", and with the foundation of respect and trust, she "loved us forward" to be the best we could be as individuals. She was a stellar role model, and I will forever remember and be endebted to her by virtue of the private time she spent with me. I went from feelings of being a "misfit" to the knowledge that we all have important roles to play in life, and that those roles will likely evolve as we do. I never had the opportunity to tell her just what she meant to me; nor to tell her that her support still lives in my heart, share and to love forward.
I stand with all her family and friends at this difficult time in prayers and with love.

Our Dear Miss Ames: A master storyteller, motivator, life guide and such an extraordinary teacher. As tough and demanding as she was in the classroom, she made her students feel special, cared for, even loved. She had a unique way of speaking, words chosen so carefully and expressed so clearly. She shared her gift of knowledge and love of learning in the best way -- by imparting in her students that same love. Even as a "social studies" teacher she taught writing and English usage, skills which I use to this day. She gave me my start in reading philosophy and religion and spirituality as well as my interest in politics and government. Her course in "Contemporary Civilization" was no doubt formative for so many of us. Certainly she had a life so very well lived, with many broad interests and civic involvement. I have many happy memories of Miss Ames and feel so privileged to have had her as a teacher. My heartfelt condolences to the Ames family, please know that Miss Ames lives on through all who were blessed to have known her.

There is a special place in heaven for teachers like Dr. Ames. Unequivocally the best teacher I have had the good fortune to learn from in my educational life and "career". She had the ability to make me believe I could be much more than I was showing in the classroom. Through her encouragement and ability to make learning fun, she changed my life. Dr. Ames opened up the world for me in her social studies classroom, and I have been exploring it's farthest reaches ever since. Dr. Ames would be happy to know my classroom habits improved greatly during my time in college. She released a powerful urge for learning that I pursue to this day. My only regret is that I never told her in person. Thank you Pat for being such an amazing influence in my life, God bless you.

Dr. Ames was a student's educational gift as well as a truly kind hearted and giving individual. She set the educational bar that all teachers should be measured to. To this day I fondly recall her inspirational teaching and being held accountable for my responsibilities in the classroom, school and community. It was in her class that I developed an interest in Japan through an extracurricular task she felt I should undertake. Because of this, I was able to enjoy many wonderful and rewarding years living in Japan while engaging in and exploring this culture and interacting with the residents fully. I will forever be in her debt for giving me the "task". Sabishii desu Dr. Ames (I will miss you Dr. Ames). Mata aeru yo ne (Let's meet again someday). To the Ames family I hope you find strength in knowing Dr. Ames positively influenced so many generations of students, families and teachers with her gifts of knowledge, mentoring and wisdom she gave freely. Dr. Ames will be missed but under no circumstances forgotten. With Sincerest Sympathy Chip Callan

I was a young teacher with only 5 years of experience under my belt when Dr. Ames hired me to be a Social Studies teacher at Morse High school in 1978. She mentored, encouraged, and taught me in her direct and compassionate manner how to teach, deal with students, and grow towards being a teacher leader. She truly was both an educational and community leader....one of a kind. She will be always remembered for the tremendous impact she had on so many people. Love and miss you, Pat. Greg Bartlett

Dear Ames Family,
Our family has been enriched by sharing Pat's life with all of you.
She will always be an example of one who loved: each of you, her community, her students, travel, the camp, a good story - never shortened, a good book, constant learning, and her dear parents, especially Ruth.
I'm also smiling at how she insisted that she didn't "cook" but rather just "prepared" meals. How lucky we are to have shared so many.
I love and miss her. Please know our thoughts surround you as we hold her and you close.

It is not hyperbole to say Miss Ames changed my life. She encouraged me to take advanced history (Morse High School, class of 1966) and when I told her I wasn't smart enough, she set me straight! The confidence she had in me steered me into the teaching profession and has remained with me. Whenever anyone asks me which teacher most impacted me, I always say, "Miss Ames." I am saddened to hear that Dr. Ames has passed. She was an amazing and inspirational teacher. I had her for Asian Studies and Intro to Economics in 1986. Both of those subjects have served me well and stayed with me. I have a better understanding of the world because of her. I visited Japan, and had a richer experience because I had learned from her.

As an adult, and a middle school social studies teacher, I admire her, and was always happy to see her and chat with her when I saw her. The world is a far richer place because of Miss Ames!

I always admired Dr. Ames' wit and intelligence. Her Asian Studies class was a highlight of my high school career. I always chuckle when I think of our trip to Boston's China Town, as Dr. Ames marched our class full of gawking teens right through the combat zone, saying, "Come along! Just step over him (the man passed out on the sidewalk)." She was practical, knowledgeable, and left her imprint on me. I think of her at the beginning of every new semester. I introduce myself almost exactly as she did: "You may call me Ms. Vose, or Dr. Vose, but never call me Mrs. Vose. That's my mother." Rest in Peace, Dr. Ames.
