When I first came out to my biology class about the illnesses I've been living with, it was one of the hardest things that I've done in my life. After I told my story, I went and cried for awhile because a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. When I returned, Ms. Andrews informed me that Evan said, "She is so brave, I don't know how she does it every day." I never forgot what he said about me and I never will. I hope what I've shared isn't too painful for his family and friends to hear.

To Evan's family, my sincere condolences. I got to know Evan within the last year. I have been a regular at the Bath YMCA swimming at least three days a week. Evan and I quickly became friends and chatted 5 to 10 minutes after I would get done swimming. He was an extremely nice young man. We talked about the summer and him working for Ethan DeBarry down at Popham. He had recently done his first trip to Seguin and he was looking forward to his summer. He talked about doing some part-time lifeguarding at Popham as well. I know I didn't know him long, but I will miss his smile and our ongoing conversations. It is going to be tough when I go to the pool and not see him there. I will do ongoing prayers for him and his family. I feel blessed, that I got to know this outstanding young man.

The Woolwich Central Staff was in awe of the magical way Evan worked with the students in his charge. He was so kind, warm and friendly. I'd arrive at school in the morning and there he was - swinging WITH the kids, not just watching them but enjoying the moment with them. Evan would frequently have the kids do craft projects and cards to deliver to the staff for holidays and special occasions. He was a model of generosity and warmth. His presence will be truly missed.

One of the best things that my wife and I did was to join the YMCA in BAth, otherwise we probably would never have met Evan. He was always a bright spot in a sometime dark world. Evan would always greet us with a smile when we entered the pool area and would say goodbye with that same smile. I enjoyed our talks together and he often talked about his beloved Morse High. We will miss him keep smiling as I know you will because that is who you are. So long for now.
